With a successful debut album, and a role in last year’s hilarious comedy, “The House Bunny,” Katharine McPhee is ready to start the new year with a sexy new look, and a new album, “Unbroken.” The singer, who traded her long, brunette hair for a short, blonde do, is ready to take on the music scene once again. However, there is more to Katherine’s second album than just a new look. Along with her darker hair, Katharine has also traded in her traditional pop sound for a more mature, alternative sound. (You may even say that this album has a country sound to it! We love it!)
The album’s first single, ‘Had It All,’ is a great example of what the rest of McPhee’s album has to offer. The laid back and uplifting track, which was co-written by American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi, is definitely a different direction than her debut single, ‘Over It,’ which had a Pop & R&B sound. McPhee describes the song as being about “a girl that went out to look for a different love and thought that she could find something better and realized at the end ‘Wow, I really had it all.’” She also says the song is very much upbeat and with a “positive vibe to it.” This is one of our favorite tracks, and had us singling along after the first couple of listens.
Ballads like the title track, ‘Unbroken,’ ‘Say Goodbye,’ and ‘Anybody’s Heart’ are not only heartfelt, but showcase the singer’s beautiful voice. Some of our other favorite tracks on the album are ‘It’s Not Right’ and ‘How.’ McPhee has said that this album is more “organic,” and after listening to the album, which she co-wrote six songs on, we have to agree!
